Welcome to Alohomora Farm, Pocatello’s finest new equestrian facility! We believe that working with horses should be enjoyable for people and horses; that there are always new things to learn to enhance the horse/human partnership, and that horses and their people are capable of better performance than most people would imagine. Our mission is to provide a comfortable living and working environment for horses and to assist with the development of training for the horse and instruction for the rider. In short: to help people to enjoy their horses and horses to enjoy their people. We have a well appointed facility and offer the following services:
- Horse boarding: we promote our “Natural Care” horse boarding which involves a combination of individual stabling and group turnout on pasture. The aim is to get the benefits of both styles of horse care: the time in the stable allows for individualized feeding of each horse, plus ‘quiet time’ for naps and convenience for handlers. The time in the pasture allows horses to socialize with each other, exercise , and graze, basically to just be a horse.
- Riding Lessons: We offer instruction in horsemanship skills and riding skills for a wide range of abilities - first time beginners on up to fairly advanced level from an ARIA certified instructor. We have a nice checklist system to promote accountability for skills learned from the students and the instructor
- Horse Training: We handle a wide variety of training issues on a case-by-case basis: everything from starting young horses to fixing behavior problems or adding new skills for new disciplines. We prefer to keep the owner/ rider/handler involved in all training.
- Horse Sales: from time to time we have horses that we have trained available for lease or sale
Fun Activities: Musical rides, jump schooling, de-spooking, and trail rides are examples of fun activities that we do--not really lessons but not riding on your own either. We can also put together instructional clinics on such topics as hoof trimming, horse nutrition, saddle fitting, and other topics.
Our facilities include a 68’ x 195’ Coverall indoor arena, lots of stadium jumps and several cross-country obstacles, a 12 stall stable, tackroom/lounge, wash stall, individual tack lockers, several paddocks and pastures, a small apple orchard, and our own trail loop system around the perimeter of our 15 acre irrigated farm. |
